I really didn’t want to, but I took advantage of Chameleon’s 20% 4th of July sale and purchased the full MPAS 2.0 antenna system. As well as their capacity hat, 4 wire orange counterpoise kit, & TDL loop hub kit. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a mistake as I’ve heard mixed reviews from lots of different sources. Some say it’s too lossy and some swear by it. Most UA-cam reviews I take with a grain of salt. Most are given these systems for free or on loan from the manufacturer. The ones that get it for free of course are going to say nothing to little bad about it. The ones that get it on loan appear to be a little more honest but in the end who really knows. Then there’s people that give their take on it because either way they have nothing to gain or lose and are usually the most honest. I love to experiment with antennas, it’s a lot of fun. Eats up a lot POTA time though. 😊 I’m going to compare the MPAS vs a plain 17’ whip with radials for ground mounting and elevated with an elevated counterpoise. I will document all of it on paper and hopefully be able to submit it somewhere. Whether it be on Facebook, QRZ, or anywhere else it may be useful. I may even compare it with 100 watts and QRP 10 watts. Not sure how soon it will be as it’s been hot as Haitis here in NJ lately. Wish me luck 😊!

Thanks Thomas, I enjoy this type of video and emulated your modular setup for the AX1 antenna years back! My first backpacking setup was an Original QCX mounted on standoffs inside a dollar store pencil box and, like you described, used the tent stakes pouch with rocks for the throw weight. 73 N4NN

So it's normal to NOT give your park number when working a hunter? Only give park number when working P2P? I've worked voice POTA so I am used to using the park number constantly.

Probably is good that its springy because it helps keep everything held in and it wont move around. I think I'm going to store my mountaintopper like this. I have everything you showed and it would keep it together nicely!

The internal speaker sounded just fine to me. I find it easier to listen to weak but clear signals over loud but distorted

Well once again I missed you on this one. I keep checking POTA/SOTA for you and the RBN and most times when I do find you I can't hear you . Cycle 25 is not proving to be a big banger in my opinion, I"ve seen a lot better conditions thru out the cycles befoee this one. but will keep hunting so have no fear Tom I'll get in ur log again for sure . thanks for sharing, de Ellis WA1RKS

My AF Gain on my K3 did the same thing OR you couldn't turn the AF Gain down and you were deafened. I sent it to Elecraft to have it replaced and the K3 gone through. It came back in good as new condition. Also....are you sending 72 instead of 73 on purpose????? Just curious. de KN8N

I know I am "late" to this party, but there is a smaller lighter binding post to bnc connector. Its the Pomona 3296. The std connector is 19.2mm between centers on the binding posts, the smaller is 12.7mm between the posts centers and is somewhat less bulky, I know, Pomona is expensive.... Hi Thomas, I was wondering, how does one go about properly grounding their radio when they go POTA? Or, do most people just not ground their radio? Thanks!

The biggest mistake I made is plugging in the power with polarity reversed. Was not good for my QRP+. I have hooked up an antenna tuner backwards and that was also interesting. There is a built in power and SWR meter if you turn it on. My first guess was that you were in practice mode till I caught sight of the gold connector… I am surprised the finals didn’t leak smoke.

Other than the replaceable battery pack and the bump guards, what's the difference between the X6200 and the X6100?

You seem like an upfront and honest person, when it comes to your videos on this radio. I’m looking for a hf radio cause I just passed my extra exam. So with that being said would you recommend this radio to someone who is just getting into this part of the hobby. And what kind of antenna setup do you recommend to get started your comments would be very helpful
